KIDS BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU
Steve only ever taught BJJ (Brazilian Jiu Jitsu) to children as a part of the kids HapKiDo class.
Some of the kids became very successful when competing in state and national BJJ tournaments and they would compete against kids who were mostly training in BJJ only. This was at a time when the kids only had a small variety of BJJ techniques in their syllabus and would only wrestle for the last 15 minutes of their HapKiDo class, so the parents were amazed and proud at how well their children performed under the pressure in competition.
Steve now teaches separate kids BJJ classes with an emphasis on technique and strong spirit he encourages the students to compete in BJJ tournaments. This helps them understand the need for focus and concentration during class, it also builds a strong bond with the other students and shows them that there can be rewards for hard work and dedication.
Techniques your child will learn in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are:
- Sweeps and reversals (switching positions with an opponent to a more advantageous position)
BJJ is an extremely technical system and young children can have trouble trying to grasp the intricate techniques used in this highly competitive sport. For this reason the UFA only enroll children from the age of 8 to 16 years old for kids BJJ classes. Good BJJ skills can only be gained over a period of time with lots of practice and repetition, it is important for children and parents to commit the time needed to gain these skills.
Pride and confidence will also be gained from regular training and your child will learn valuable ground skills which may assist in a self defence situation one day.
Benefits your child will gain from Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training:
- Self Confidence and Pride
